I do not buy and try enough blended whiskies.
That is my conclusion after trying this whisky. No spoilers yet, but I just wanted it out there.
For a while i've been eyeballing bottles by Turntable. A brand that used references to songs and other things related to music for naming their blended whiskies.
In this case: Unplugged.
I could not resist getting this bottle when I walked into a store to get a bottle of wine for dinner and spotted this one one sale. For that price I could not pass and grabbed it, walked to the register, payed, put it in my bag and walked out of the store. Having to walk back in there 10 minutes later to get my bottle of wine.
Fine, everybody makes mistakes when they get excited.
I brought home the wine, placed the whisky in my cabinet and had dinner. With the wine pairing.
But tonight (It is currently 20:45 here.) I opened the bottle and decided to sip and relax with some music over the speakers. ( I listened to this.)
This whisky was bottled at 46% Vol., non-chillfiltered with its natural color.
On the nose it is fruity, but I was more surprised by some earthy flowery notes. Some apples, pears but also sweet tangerines. A second sniff brings some oak, some vanilla and grapefruits. A first hint of a peaty note pops up for me as well.
A big sip brings a lot: Oatmeal cookies, custard, warm appele sauce and some slight peat notes that are a mix between earthy notes and lingering smoke.
It does carry some alcohol heat that I was not expecting based on the nose, but it is not too rough and adds a little to this liquid adventure in my glass.
A second sip brings some heartier notes that I'm not too sure of. A third sip make those notes dissapear, but I keep searching for them, although I was not a fan.
The finish is a mix of a very thick floral honey, that still carries the pollen the bees have used, mixed with some oak and very light smoke. It lingers on the tongue and I'm discovering layers in the finish, that is lasting longer than I anticipated.
